It’s been a while since I’ve heard about this Danish concept of finding happiness and leaving your life at peace, however I did not looked into it that much.
But last evening I was in a bookstore with a friend and found this book “The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish Way to Live Well” and after some inner struggles (it’s too expensive, why buy it / no, it’s not that expensive and there are great changes to improve my life) I bought it.
The author, Meik Wiking is the CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen and has been studying the Danish life and why the Danish people are the happiest nation in the world, despite many of the obvious shortfalls of leaving in Denmark (the Institute does a great and valuable work).
Today I’ve read the first pages and the book itself gives you a nice feeling of coziness and well-being. The hygge concept seems very hard to explain, but the author summarized it to “when you are cuddled up on a sofa with a loved one, or sharing comfort food with your closest friends. It is those crisp blue mornings when the light through your window is just right”.
This was my today’s hygge moment (or actually it is hyggelig (adjective of hygge) moments), accompanied by a glass of wine. Simply lovely!
And as my greatest ideas come when my mind is at peace with me and does not try to impose its different scenarios of how awful the systems are (economic, tax, health, school) in Romania, I thought of how about documenting the hyggelig moments of each day starting today. I do not know of there will be anything to document :))) but I’ll give it a try and see how it goes.
My thoughts / pictures / videos will be on twitter @MlenycME (recently launched so wish me luck and inspiration) if you would want to see my progresses in experiencing hygge.
Until my next post I leave you with a song recently discovered! Enjoy!
